Extension to stay-at-home rules for Broken Hill Local Government Area (LGA)

Extension to stay-at-home rules for Broken Hill Local Government Area (LGA)

Dear Parent/Carer,

With the extension of the stay-at-home rules for Broken Hill LGA. This replaces any existing orders in regional NSW.

Students must stay at home in Week 10 (13/9 – 17/9) unless there is no other option. Only essential workers who are rostered on that day can send their children.

I once more would like to acknowledge and say thank you for your support during remote learning, I understand that there is a lot of pressure on households and many of our parents/carers are managing home schooling, employment and general support of family and community. Please keep safe, look after yourselves first and foremost, and do not hesitate to contact the school if you are having any concerns.

During Week 10 (13/9 – 17/9) to support our work around R U OK day and to support and maintain student engagement during the last week of Term 3, we have shortened the length of our formal school day online to run from 9:00am to 1:00pm with a normal recess break. Students are encouraged to engage in physical activity or some form of leisure off screens during periods 5 and 6. Each class will continue to have a minimum of 1 video lesson via Microsoft teams or Zoom with their teacher. It will give students the opportunity to ask any questions, get additional help, check in with teachers and other students. The teachers will let the students know what timetabled lesson is scheduled as a video lesson at the beginning of the week.

If you do not have an electronic device, internet at home or having trouble with online work there are paper copies of the weekly work in envelopes outside the Front Office of the school. Weekly paper copy packs are available for collection each Monday at 9am, please sign when you collect your pack. If you do not have access to collect a pack and would like one delivered, please call, or email the school and we will arrange one for you.

We have a limited supply of laptops to loan students if they do not have any technology at home. Students must have internet connected at home to utilise the device. As a priority these will be offered to senior students first, if you are in Year 11 or 12 and would like a loan device, please contact your Year Adviser or the school.

The following arrangements have been made for our students.

·       Year 12 Students – will recommence modified at home trial examinations on Monday, 13 September as per the exam timetable dated Monday, 16 August 2021 through to Friday, 20 August. Class teachers will be in touch with students to provide details of how these tasks will look for the subjects involved. It is important that any HSC student that does not have access to a device or internet to please contact the school ASAP.

·       Year 11 Students – will undertake modified end of year exams during Term 4, Weeks 1 and 2 during class time for several subjects.

·       Years 7 – 10 – All Assessments tasks will be rescheduled to Term 4.

Thank you for your support and stay safe

Mr Ross Mackay

Principal
